José Ignacio Zahínos Sánchez (born 1 December 1977 in Madrid) is a retired Spanish footballer. Mainly a defensive midfielder, his main asset was work-rate.
Also being able to pitch in as central defender, the late bloomer's career was greatly hampered by injuries[1] - he only played an average of 10 matches per season during his 10-year professional career.
Zahínos' professional career began with hometown Atlético de Madrid, making two appearances for the first team in 2000–01's second division. However, he would appear very rarely for the Colchoneros, serving four loan stints in level two until June 2007 in the process.
In the 2007–08 season, Zahínos moved to Recreativo de Huelva in La Liga on a two-year deal,[2] but would have his season cut short due to a serious knee injury, sustained in a 1–0 win at CA Osasuna, in April 2008. Due to this, he missed the entirety of the following season, eventually being released by the Andalusians in the 2009 summer.
Zahínos retired shortly after, starting as a coach in Atlético's youth ranks.
